Comic 931: Quite the Turnoff

Title: Lanes; alt-text: Each quarter of the lanes from left to right corresponds roughly to breast cancer stages one through four (at diagnosis).

Man. Now I remember why we normally leave it up to Gamer's neckbeard to review these. Briefly: if Randall is trying to share with us his amazing insights into what cancer is like, the metaphor is clunky and useless and unhelpful; if he's trying to evoke emotion in us, the dullness of the art and writing poleaxes that; and if he's trying to make a joke he forgot to put one in. Unbriefly: read the above but pronounce all the 'a's as 'aaaaaa'.

  1. Actually, this is one that I'd probably leave to Raven. Too bad she's dead.

  2. The last panel taken by itself (with the inset, I guess) would actually be a comic worth looking at. Everything above it is implicit in the "punch line."

For a guy whose target audience is so self-congratulatorily smart, Randall sure spends a lot of time explaining himself.

  3. GOOMH, I totally hate cancer too.

  4. So apparently I don't exist any more. Hmm.

This comic is almost more awful than that "Science works, bitches" ranty one.

Captcha: dourio. The third Italian plumber, far less pleasant.

  5. whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat

Why are you deleted from the internet, Raven? What did you do to make Google SO ANGRY with you?

  6. I stole Google secrets and gave them to the Chinese =[ Also yeah, my vacation plans went in a very peculiar direction that did not involve quaint Atlantic villages [although did manage to involve indie pop bands]. I would have told you but I got rid of facebook and the rest of the internet [which is to say "Google"] seemed to end up Ravenless one way or another too.

My blog still exists in google's cache, but I mean. .... ....

GLAD YOU ARE ALL HAVING FUN. RGDS, RVN

  8. JUST WAIT, I'LL COME OUT WITH A JOURNAL WEBCOMIC ANALYZING HOW DIFFICULT LIFE IS WHEN YOU'RE BETTER THAN EVERYONE/WORSE PAID THAN EVERYONE.

  9. How about you just reopen all your accounts and start posting reviews again instead?

  10. But if Raven reopens her accounts I'll end up getting roped into stupid things again (eg: this week)

  14. ".....the dullness of the art and writing poleaxes that;...."

    Poleaxes?

I can hear the Yankees scurying to their dictionaries for erudition on that one.

  15. Man, nuts to cancer.
    Cancer is totally gay.
Like, who appointed cancer the king of diseases?
    What the shit is that?
Who got up one day and said "Man, what if we just had like... more cancer? That would be totally cool!"
What a total piece of shit cancer is.
I don't even get why we have cancer.
I mean, what is the fucking point.

    Am I right?

  16. Gamer, do you know how absurd the process of account reactivation is? Unless you have the months you started using gmail, youtube, and blogger all on hand you are basically ineligible. my memory: not that good.

  17. Ah. So what did we learn about becoming a hippie?

    TO NOT TO.

  18. Raven, can you give us some insights about Penny Arcade?

  20. Gamer, I'm pretty sure none of the Ravens here in the past week are actually her. She's gone to a better place, one that doesn't have XKCD everywhere. Or maybe she died in an ocean or got captured by ocean pirates, but the previous statement still holds anyways.
